Hot Topic: IPv6

On May 7, 2007, the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) released the Resolution of the Board of Trustees of ARIN on Internet Protocol Numbering Resource Availability in response to reports estimating that IPv4 address space will be exhausted by the year 2010.

There has been lively discussion on various technical mailing lists about the scarcity of IPv4 address space and the operational implications for network service providers. Below are links to sites where you will find information about the move to IPv6 address space and efforts to conserve IPv4 space.

This list is not exhaustive. If you would like to add a link or have a suggestion for topic, please send an email with the appropriate information to admin@ln.net.

For your information, Los Nettos currently runs native IPv6 in its backbone, peers with both commercial and non-commercial IPv6 networks and can allocate IPv6 addresses. If you are a Los Nettos Asscociate and wish to get more information on how you can prepare your network for IPv6, email hostmaster@ln.net.
